About Stellenbosch

Founded in 1679, Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa (Cape Town being the oldest). Walking through the oak lined streets of Stellenbosch is a wonderful experience. The town is packed with historic buildings, some dating back to the early 1700’s, which are so well preserved that you feel transformed to a different bygone era.

Stellenbosch and surrounds has so much to offer and we will be glad to assist you in any way that we can.

Wine Routes

With over 100 wineries to choose from, booking a day trip to some of South Africa’s internationally renowned wine farms is a must. Sip on award-winning wines or merely go along to view the beautiful and breathtaking farms nestled in the mountains around Stellenbosch.

Art and History

Stellenbosch has a few wonderful art galleries with products ranging from paintings to sculpture on view. A town steeped in history and so beautifully preserved, Stellenbosch has a number of Museums which are worth a visit.

Shopping

Our guests are always amazed at the wonderful array of curio and specialist shops within walking distance from Roosenwijn. Whether you are looking for a special book, unique handmade jewellery or ostrich products, you will find it at one of the quaint little shops.

Restaurants

By far the most captivating experience in Stellenbosch is to sit at one of the many sidewalk cafes and soak up the sun, enjoying good food and wine. We will be happy to recommend a different restaurant for every meal.

Outdoors

Nestled amongst the ancient trees and right across the road from Roosenwijn Guest House, is a beautiful, tranquil haven called the Stellenbosch Botanical Gardens. If you love nature, you will be inspired by the variety of plants and trees and a visit to their restaurant “Katjiepiering” (Afrikaans for Gardenia) is always worthwhile.

Hiking, mountain biking, golf and horse riding to name but a few of the outdoor activities in the area.
